What factors affect how much you pay?
Sometimes price varies from child to child even with the same provider. If you child has special needs or you want to have the provider preform any special functions be prepared to pay more than the average. In most cases you'll pay at least a couple dollars more an hour for either a special needs child, infant or to have the provider do more than basic functions... i.e. clean, drive kids around, be on call or very flexible with schedule. With that said, though, it's likely worth it to get the quality of care that you're after and to make sure your child receives quality care.
Perk more. Pay less.
As with any career the bottom line isn't necessarily everything to a home daycare provider. Likely the reason they decided to work full time with children is because that genuinely love kids and want to make a difference. Most folks are also at least a little flexible with cost especially if you're able to make it up with some type of perk. Here are a few examples of perks that may be appealing to a home care provider in lieu of a fatter paycheck. You and your kids are cool. It may seem simple but people want to work with folks they like. If you and your kids are easy to work with then that will be a huge plus in your favor. Cell Phone. If you and your family are already on a plan then it's usually not that expensive to add a line and you might even be able to get a free phone. This could be a big perk both for you and your provider as it will help you both stay in good contact throughout the day no matter what running around goes on. Insurance. Workplaces offer this to their employees for a reason. It keeps everyone healthy and happy. Obviously paying for health insurance plans can get pricey so this one would definitely take some leg-work and online research to find what works for you. You might also consider other types of insurance... dental, life, accident instead of regular health insurance. Room and Board. Strange as it may seem some parents really like this kind of trade off. If you have an extra room in your house and don't mind the idea of a live in nanny you might find this very appealing. You'll get the help with the kids you need and won't have to shell out a lot out of pocket to make it happen.
